# Final Grade Calculator

One of the best things that students can do to be on top of their courses and grades is to use a final grade calculator. After all, a good final grade calculator will allow you to calculate your current grade as well as it can also help you determine the grade you need to have in your final exam so that you can end up the year with a good course grade.

A final grade calculator is extremely simple to use and is very intuitive. Just check the one at the top of this page, for instance. All you need to do us to insert your current class grade in terms of percentage or letter grade, your desired class grade in terms of percentage or letter grade, and finally, the weight that the final exam has in your overall grade. Then, just hit the Calculate Final Grade button.

While using a final grade calculator is very straightforward, nothing better than taking a close look at a practical example. This way, you won’t ever have any problems either figuring out your final grade as well as in using a final grade calculator.

## #1: Calculate Your Current Class Grade:

In order to determine your current class grade, you need to know the weight that all assignments that you did throughout the year have in your final grade.

Let’s say that for this class, you did 3 different assignments which are worth 15% each of your final grade. You had to take a small test that was worth 20% of your final grade. And finally, you have the final exam that is worth 30% of your final class grade.

Let’s assume that you got the following results:

– Assignment 1: 4/5

– Assignment 2: 7/10

– Assignment 3: 15/20

– Test: 25/40

And now, you want to know what score you need to have on your final exam so that you can get an overall average of 70% in the course.

## #2: Weighing Each Assignment And Test:

Now, you need to incorporate the weight that each one of the small assignments has on your final grade. This way, you’ll need to:

– Assignment 1: 15 X (4/5) = 60/75

– Assignment 2: 15 X (7/10) = 105/150

– Assignment 3: 15 X (15/20) = 225/300

– Test: 20 X (25/40) = 500/800

So, your final score in this course before you take the final exam is:

(60 + 105 + 225 + 500) / (75 + 150 + 300 + 800) = 890 / 1325 = 0.672

Notice that this value will always be a decimal. So, in order to convert it into a percentage, you just need to multiply it by 100:

0.672 X 100 = 67.2%

## #3: Determine How Much You Need To Have In Your Final Exam To Reach The 70% Grade In The Course:

In order to determine what grade you need to have in your final exam to reach your 70% goal is defined, you’ll need to fill in with the formula with your own numbers:

Final Exam Grade = [ final grade you want – [(100% – the weight of your final exam on the final grade) X Current Grade]] / the weight of your final exam on your final grade

So, replacing the formula with the numbers from our example:

Final Exam Grade = (70% – (100% – 30%) X 67.2% ) / 30% = 76.5%

So, as you can see, and based on this simple example, you need to have at least 76.5% on your final exam in order to have a final grade of 70% on this course.
